Bananas are currently being considered by Ithaca, NY researchers as potential oral vaccine against HBV (Hepatitis B Virus). HBV affects over 2 million people worldwide. The Roswell Park Cancer Institute (RPCI) estimated in 1996 that approximately 20,000 to 25,000 Americans are infected every year.
